The best way for people to stay healthy is to understand their health: to be educated about what makes them sick and how to minimize those factors.

When children are malnourished their bodies retain calories more easily; add to that eating rice and sugar, which are cheap here in Nicaragua, and as adults these children are more likely to have type 2 diabetes – a disease that can be prevented with education.

  • Educational Classes

We offer classes on sexual health, good oral hygiene, nutrition, asthma, cleanliness, etc. The more we teach, the more people want to know and the healthier they, their families, and their communities are.

  • Health Promoter

On staff we have a full time health promoter who organizes the public health component of our clinic. We have 30 lay health promoters throughout Nueva Vida and in nearby rural villages.

A dozen promoters have emergency first aid kits in their homes and six have nebulizers in their homes. The promoters have been taught CPR and basic wound care. The ones with nebulizers know how to use these breathing machines and offer them to people in their neighborhoods 24 hours a day.
